CHAP. 423.— An Act For erecting a suitable memorial to John Ericsson. August 31, 1916[[H. R. 5](/us/bill/64/hr/5)][[Public, No. 245](/us/pl/64/245)] *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,* That the sum of $35,000,John Ericsson.Appropriation for memorial to, in District of Columbia. or so much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby authorized for the erection, in the city of Washington, District of Columbia, of a suitable memorial to John Ericsson, the inventor and constructor of the Monitor, said sum to be expended for the purposes herein named by a commission consisting of the chairman of the Committee 672on the Library of the Senate, the chairman of the Committee on the Library of the House of Representatives, and the Secretary of the *Proviso*.Approval of Commission of Fine Arts.Navy: *Provided*, That the design and location of said memorial and the plan for the treatment of the grounds connected with its site shall be approved by the Commission of Fine Arts.
