CHAP. 168.— An Act To authorize aids to navigation and other works in the Lighthouse Service, and for other purposes.March 4, 1913.[[H. R. 27789](/us/bill/62/hr/27789).][[Public, No. 453](/us/pl/62/453).] *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*,Lighthouse Service.Aids to navigation authorized. That the Secretary of Commerce and Labor is hereby authorized to establish, provide, or improve the following aids to navigation and other works in the Lighthouse Service, under the Department of Commerce and Labor, in accordance with the respective limits of cost hereinafter respectively get forth, which shall in no case be exceeded.
To construct and equip a lighthouse tender for general service at a cost not exceeding $250,000. first lighthouse district.First district. To construct and equip a light vessel to be placed near MonheganLight vessel, Monhegan Island, Me. Island, off the entrance to Penobscot Bay, Maine, at a cost not to exceed $125,000. third lighthouse district.Third district. To erect a carpenter shop at the general lighthouse depot, Tompkinsville,Shop, Staten Island depot. Staten Island, New York, at a cost not exceeding $23,000. sixth lighthouse district.Sixth district.
Purchase of a site and construction of a wharf and buildings,Wharf for depot. and purchase of the necessary equipment, so far as funds may permit, for a depot for the sixth lighthouse district, at a cost not to exceed $125,000. eighth lighthouse district.Eighth district. Aids to navigation in Atchafalaya Entrance Channel, Louisiana,Atchafalaya Channel, La. at a cost not to exceed $50,000. 1018 To construct and equip a light vessel for the Southwest PassLight vessel.Southwest Pass, La.
Entrances to the Mississippi River, Louisiana, at a cost not to exceed $125,000. ninth lighthouse district.Ninth district. Light station on Navassa Island, in the West Indies, at a cost notNavassa Island, W. I. to exceed $125,000. Purchase for lighthouse purposes of approximately one-half acre ofPort Ferro light station, P. R.Additional land. land in the vicinity of the lighthouse reservation at Port Ferro Light Station, Porto Rico, for the purpose of constructing a watershed and cistern, and the appropriation “General expenses, Lighthouse Service,” for the fiscal year in which the purchase is effected, is hereby made available for the purchase of said site. tenth lighthouse district.Tenth district.
Rearrangement, rebuilding, and improvement of the aids to navigationAshtabula, Ohio.Harbor lights. at Ashtabula Harbor, Ohio, at a cost not to exceed $45,000. Aids to navigation and improvements of existing aids in PugetPuget Sound, etc., Wash.Aids. Sound and adjacent waters. Washington, at a cost not to exceed $30,000. Improvement of Warrior Rock Light Station, Columbia River,Warrior Rock, Oreg.Light station. Oregon, including the purchase of additional land, at a cost not to exceed $2,000. eighteenth lighthouse district.Eighteenth district. To authorize the completion of the unfinished portion of the GovernmentPoint Arena, Cal.Road to lighthouse. road from Rollerville to the Point Arena Lighthouse, Mendocino County, California, at a cost not to exceed $3,000.
For establishing a light and fog-signal station on or near NorthNorth Farallon Island, Cal. Farallon Island, California, $100,000. Hereafter the purchase of necessary additional land for light stationsAdditional land purchases. and depots is authorized under rules prescribed by the Secretary of Commerce and Labor: *Provided*, That no single acquisition*Proviso*.Limit of cost. of such additional land shall cost in excess of $500. Hereafter supplies and equipment for special works of the LighthouseSupplies to be furthered from general stock.
Service may be furnished from general stock and the appropriation 1019“General expenses, Lighthouse Service,” reimbursed therefor from the respective appropriations for special works. Hereafter when any condemned supplies, materials, equipment,Sale of condemned supplies, etc. or land can not be profitably used in the work of the Lighthouse Service the same shall be appraised and sold, either by sealed proposals for the purchase of the same or by public auction after advertisement of the sale for such time as in the judgment of the Secretary of Commerce and Labor the public interests require, the proceeds ofDeposit of net proceeds. such sales, after the payment therefrom of the expenses of making the sales, to be deposited and covered into the Treasury as miscellaneous receipts as now provided for by law in like cases.
