CHAP. 263.— AN ACT To authorize the expenditure of the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars as a part contribution toward the erection of a monument at Germantown, Pennsylvania, in commemoration of the founding of the first permanent German settlement in America. March 4, 1911. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*, That the expenditure of the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars is hereby authorized to aid in erecting a monument at Germantown, Pa.Germantown, Pennsylvania, in commemoration of the founding of the first permanent Expenditure for monument to first German settlement.German settlement in America: *Provided,**Provisos.*That no part of the sum herein authorized shall be expended until there shall have been raised and made available for the Additional amount required.erection of said monument an additional sum of at least twenty-five thousand dollars: *Provided further,* That the design of said monument shall be Approval of design.approved by the Secretary of War, the governor of the State of Pennsylvania, and the president of the National German- American Alliance; and the money for the erection of the said monu ment shall be expendedExpenditures.under the supervision of the Secretary of War, the governor of Pennsylvania, and Cure, etc.the president of the National German-American Alliance: *And provided further,* That the respon1353sibility for the care and keeping of the said monument shall be and remain with the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, it being understood that the United States shall nave no responsibility therefor.
