CHAP. 1603.— An Act To amend section twenty-four of the Act approved December twenty-first, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, entitled “An Act to amend the laws relating to American seamen, for the protection of such seamen, and to promote commerce.” April 26, 1904. [[S. 4375](/us/bill/58/s/4375).] [[Public, No. 163](/us/pl/58/163).] *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*, American seamen. Protection of, etc. Vol. 30, p. 763, amended. That so much of paragraph
(a)of section twenty-four of the Act approved December twenty-first, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, entitled “An Act to amend the laws relating to American seamen, for the protection of such seamen, and to promote commerce,” as reads “If any person shall demand or receive, either directly or indirectly, from any seaman or other person seeking employment as seaman, or from any person on his behalf, any remuneration whatever for providing him with employment, he shall for every such offense be liable to a penalty of not more than one hundred Receiving remuneration for procuring employment for, a misdemeanor. dollars,” is hereby amended to read “If any person shall demand or receive, either directly or indirectly, from any seaman or other person seeking employment as seaman, or from any person on his behalf, Penalty, any remuneration whatever for providing him with employment, he shall for every such offense be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be imprisoned not more than six months or fined not more than five hundred dollars.” Sec. 2.
