CHAP. 54.— An Act For the relief of Stratton H. Benscoter. January 16, 1897. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, * Stratton H. Benscoter.Granted honorable discharge. That the Secretary of War is hereby empowered and directed to revoke the order approving the proceedings, findings, and sentence of the general court-martial at Fort Smith, Arkansas, dishonorably discharging Stratton H. Benscoter, late private in Company I, Ninth Regiment Iowa Cavalry, from the service FIFTY-FOURTH CONGRESS.
Sess. II. Chs. 54–57. 1897. 771 with loss of pay and confinement in the penitentiary, and to grant him an honorable discharge from the said service, said discharge to date December fifth, eighteen hundred and sixty-five. Received by the President, January 5, 1897. [Note by the Department of State.—The foregoing act having been presented to the President of the United States for his approval, and not having been returned by him to the house of Congress in which it originated within the time prescribed by the Constitution of the United States, has become a law without his approval.]
