CHAP. 425.— An Act For the relief of Edward Rice. June 11, 1896. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, * Edward Rice.Payment of lost bonds. That the Secretary of the Treasury is hereby authorized and directed to pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to Edward Rice, of Denver, in the State of Colorado, formerly of Worcester, in the State of Massachusetts, the sum of two thousand seven hundred dollars, in full for the following coupon bonds issued under the Act of March third, anno Domini eighteen hundred and sixty-five, known as consols of eighteen hundred and sixty-seven, namely:
Numbers one hundred and four thousand five hundred and sixty-eight and one hundred and four thousand five hundred and sixty-nine, of one hundred dollars each; numbers sixty-one thousand eight hundred and fifty-seven, sixty-one thousand eight hundred and fifty-eight, and sixty-one thousand eight hundred and fifty-nine, of five hundred dollars each; and number one hundred and one thousand three hundred and two, of one thousand dollars, and, in addition thereto, the interest maturing on said bonds after July first, anno Domini eighteen hundred and sixty-eight, to the date when *Proviso.*Indemnity bond.said bonds ceased to bear interest: *Provided,* That said Edward Rice shall first give bond, with sureties to the satisfaction of the Secretary of the Treasury, in a sum double the amount of said bonds, conditioned to secure the United States harmless against said bonds and coupons, said bonds having been lost by said Edward Rice on the nineteenth day of July, anno Domini eighteen hundred and sixty-eight.
