CHAP. 45.— An act providing for a public building in South Bend, Indiana.January 2, 1891. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*,South Bend, Ind. Public building, etc. That the Secretary of the Treasury be. and he hereby is, authorized and directed to purchase, procure by condemnation proceedings, or otherwise provide a Site.site, and cause to be erected thereon, in the city of South Bend, in Building.the State of Indiana, a suitable building for the use and accommodation of the post-office and other Government offices in said city, with fire proof vaults.
The site and the building thereon, when completed Plans, etc.according to plans and specifications to be previously approved by Cost.the Secretary of the Treasury, not to exceed the cost of seventy-five *Proviso*. Open space.thousand dollars: *Provided*, That there shall be an open space of not less than forty feet upon every side of said building, including streets No expenditure until valid title, etc., pass.and alleys, and that no part of said sum shall be expended until a valid title to said site shall be vested in the United States and the State of Indiana shall cede to the United States exclusive jurisdiction over the same, during the time the United States shall be or remain the owner thereof, for all purposes except the administration of the criminal laws of said State and the service of any civil process therein.
