CHAP. 239.— An act to enable the President to protect the interests of the United States in Panama.February 25, 1889. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*,Panama. Appropriation to protect American interests. That there be and is hereby appropriated out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars to enable the President to protect the interests of the United States, and to provide for the security of the persons and property of citizens of the United States at the Isthmus of Panama, in such manner as he may deem expedient. Approved, February 25, 1889.
