CHAP. 598.— An Act for the relief of Lafayette FowlerJune 30, 1886. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*,Lafayette Fowler.Remission of revenue tax. etc., on spirits destroyed by fire. That the sum of one hundred and thirty dollars and fifty cents, being the amount of revenue tax imposed by law upon Lafayette Fowler, of Carroll County, Virginia, for the manufacture, and so forth, of one hundred and forty-five gallons of distilled spirits which were destroyed by fire in the storehouse of said Fowler, in said county, on the twenty-second day of February, eighteen 824 FORTY-NINTH CONGRESS.
Sess. I. Chs. 598, 602–606. 1886. hundred and eighty-six, without fault or negligence on his part, and the interest and penalties imposed for the non payment of said tax be, and the same are hereby, released and remitted to him; audit, prior to Refund of tax, etc., if already paid.the passage of this act, the whole or any part of said tax, interest, or penalties shall have been paid by him, then the Secretary of the Treasury is hereby authorized and directed, out of any moneys in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to refund and repay to the said Lafayette Fowler the sum or sums of money so paid by him by reason of the liabilities hereinbefore mentioned.
