CHAP. 212.— An Act to authorize the construction of a bridge over Bayou Barnard, in the State of Mississippi.Feb. 23, 1887. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*,Supervisors of Harrison County, Miss., authorized to bridge Bayou Barnard.*Proviso*.Draw. That it shall be lawful for the board of supervisors of Harrison county, in the State of Mississippi, to construct a bridge across Bayou Barnard, at a point in or near the town of Handsborough, in said county, for the transit, without tolls, of persons, animals, and vehicles of all kinds: *Provided*, That the said bridge shall have a draw of not less than thirty feet, and as much more as may be necessary for the passage of steam or sail boats or other water-crafts navigating said bayou; and said authorities shall have some person in charge of said draw, so that at all times the same may be opened for the passage of boats without unnecessary delay:Plans, etc., to be approved by Secretary of War. *And provided further*, That before any bridge shall be built under this act the plans therefor, width of spans, and the location of said bridge shall be submitted to and approved by the Secretary of War.
Sec. 2. That the said Board of Supervisors shall maintain, at theirLights. own expense, from sunset to sunrise, throughout the year, and during heavy fogs, such lights on the bridge as may be required by the Light-House Board for the security of navigation. Sec. 3. That the right to alter or amend this act so as to prevent orFree navigation. remove all material obstructions to the navigation of said river is hereby expressly reserved, and all changes or alterations so required shall be made at the expense of the parties owning or controlling said bridge.
Sec. 4. That if the construction of the bridge authorized herein beTo be completed in three years. not commenced and completed within three years from the approval of this act this act shall be null and void. Sec. 5. That any bridge built under this act and according to its limitationsTo be a lawful structure and post-route. shall be a lawful structure, and shall be recognized and known as a post-route. Approved, February 23, 1887.
