CHAP. 90.— An act to provide for the erection of a public building in Jefferson City, in the State of Missouri. Mar. 3, 1883. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*, That the Secretary of thePublic building. Jefferson City, Mo.; erection of, authorized.Purchase of site. Treasury is hereby authorized and directed to purchase a site for, and cause to be erected thereon, a suitable building, with fireproof vaults extending to each story, in Jefferson City, in the State of Missouri, for the use and accommodation of the United States circuit and district courts, post-office, and other government offices held and located in said city, which site shall leave the building unexposed to danger from fire in adjacent buildings by an open space of at least fifty feet, including streets and alleys; the site, and the building thereon, when completed according to plans and specifications to be previously made and approved by the Secretary of the Treasury, not to exceed the cost of oneCost.Appropriation. hundred thousand dollars; and said sum of one hundred thousand dollars is hereby appropriated, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, for the purchase of said site and the completion of said building: *Provided,* That no part of said sum shall be expended*Proviso*.Title. until a valid title to said site shall be vested in the United States, and the State of Missouri shall cede to the United States exclusive jurisdiction over the same, during the time the United States shall be or remain the owner thereof, for all purposes except the administration of the criminal laws of said State and the service of any civil process therein.
