CHAP. 168.—An act for the relief of several persons impressed into the United States naval service. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*,Crews of steamersChampion number 3 and 5, prisoners of war, payment. to. That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to settle and pay to the several persons comprising the. crews of the steamers Champion numbers three and five, or their legal representatives, for the time they were each held as prisoners of war, including the necessary time it took them to reach their homes after their release, at the same rate or pay per month they were each receiving at the time they were captured; also for commutation of rations for same time, to be settled and paid upon proper applications to be made under this act, and passed upon by the proper accounting officers of the Treasury.
