Chap. XII.— An Act *to provide for the payment if certain expenses incurred in the impeachment of Samuel Chase.* Jan. 21, 1808. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*, That the accounting officers Expenses authorized by the committee of inquiry or the managers of the impeachment of Judge Chase to be settled, and paid. Proviso. 1804, ch. 29.of the treasury be, and they are hereby directed to audit and settle the accounts of all persons who may have claims against the United States, for expenses incurred in the inquiry into the conduct, and in the impeachment of Samuel Chase; which expenses may have been authorized by the committee of inquiry, or the managers of the said impeachment: *Provided,* that the said accounts shall have been first certified by the chairman of the said committee, or managers; and the same shall be paid out of any monies in the treasury, not otherwise appropriated.
