CHAP. CLXXVI.— An Act *authorizing and directing the Secretary of the Treasury to cause Plans and Estimates to be made and a suitable Site provided for a public Building at Memphis, Tennessee*. Feb. 21, 1873. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled*, Site to be provided and building erected at Memphis, Tenn., for custom-house, &c. That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to cause plans and estimates to be made for a fire-proof building, or a building with a fire-proof vault extending through each story, suitable for a custom-house,470FORTY-SECOND CONGRESS.
Sess. III. Ch. 177, 178. 1873. bonded warehouse, court-house and post-office, at Memphis, Tennessee, Lot now owned may be sold, &c.and he is also authorized, at his discretion, to sell or exchange the lot now owned by the United States, in the city of Memphis, aforesaid, as a site for a court-house, for a new and more eligible site for the erection of the building herein mentioned, or may purchase additional ground for the enlargement of said site, or may purchase a more eligible site, Appropriation.and the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated for said purpose out of any money in No greater sum to be used than, &c.the treasury not otherwise appropriated: *Provided*, That no greater sum shall be used for the purchase of a new site, or the enlargement of the present site, than the sum herein appropriated, in addition to whatever sum may be realized from the sale of the site now owned by the United States.
