Chap. CCLXIII.— An Act *making Appropriations for certain executive Expenses of the Government for the fiscal Year aiding June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and sixty-nine.* July 27, 1868. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,* That the following sums, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be, and the same are hereby, appropriated tor the objects hereinafter expressed, for the fiscal year ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and sixty-nine, viz.:— Appropriations for temporary clerks in Indian bureau and in State Department, and for surveyor-general of Utah Territory.
That there be appropriated, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of twenty thousand two hundred dollars, for the employment of temporary clerks in the Indian bureau, to be employed at the following rates: one clerk, at sixteen hundred dollars per annum; six clerks, at fourteen hundred dollars each per annum; seven clerks, at twelve hundred dollars each per annum; and two female copyists, at nine hundred dollars each per annum; and the sum of ten thousand dollars for the employment of temporary clerks in the State Department; the said clerks so to be employed in said State Department shall receive a compensation of twelve hundred dollars each per annum; and the sum of nine thousand dollars, or so much thereof as is necessary, is also appropriated to pay the salary, office expenses, and clerk-hire of the *Ante,* p. 91.surveyor-general of Utah Territory, in accordance with provisions of act of July sixteenth, eighteen hundred and sixty-eight.

Sec. 2. *And be it further enacted,* That there be appropriated, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of five thousand dollars, to be expended, under the direction of the commissioner of public buildings and grounds, for the purpose of building an arched roadway over Tiber Creek, on North Capitol Street, leading to the government Proviso.printing-office: *Provided,* [That] the city of Washington will appropriate sufficient additional amount to complete it.
Henry B. Ste. Marie. Sec. 3. *And be it further enacted,* That the Secretary of the Treasury is hereby authorized and directed to pay, out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, to Henry B. Ste. Marie, the sum of ten thousand dollars for services and information in the arrest of John H. Surratt, in the kingdom of Italy, charged with the crimes of conspiracy and murder, Repeal of joint resolution. Priv. Res. 65. *Post,* p. 433.and the joint resolution for the relief of Henry B.
Ste. Marie, approved July twentieth, eighteen hundred and sixty-eight, be, and the same is hereby, repealed. Approved, July 27, 1868.
