CHAP. CV.— An Act to protect American Citizens engaged in lumbering on the St. Croix River, in the State of Maine.June 1, 1866. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,* That the produce of the forestsCertain produce of the forests may be admitted free of duty. of the State of Maine upon the St. Croix river and its tributaries, owned by American citizens, and sawed in the province of New Brunswick by American citizens, (the same being unmanufactured in whole, or in part,) and having paid the same taxes as other American lumber on that river, shall be admitted into the ports of the United States free of duty, under such regulations as the Secretary of the Treasury shall from time to time prescribe.
Sec. 2. *And be it further enacted,* That this act shall take effect fromWhen act takes effect. and after its passage. Approved, June 1, 1866.
