Chap. XIII.— An Act *to amend an Act entitled “An Act for the Punishment of Crimes in the District of Columbia,” approved March second, eighteen hundred and thirty-one.* Jan. 13, 1865. 1831. ch. 37, § 2. Vol. iv. p. 448. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,* That second section of an Punishment of manslaughter, &c., in the District of Columbia.act entitled “An act for the punishment of crimes in the District of Columbia,” approved March second, eighteen hundred and thirty-one, be, and the same is hereby, amended so as to read as follows:
That every person duly convicted of manslaughter, or of any assault with intent to kill, shall be sentenced to suffer imprisonment and labor, for the first offence, for a period not less than two nor more than eight years, for the second offence, for a period not less than six nor more than fifteen years. Approved, January 13, 1865.
