Chap. CXXXII.— An Act *to empower the Superannuated Fund Society of the Maryland Annual Conference to hold Properly in the District of Columbia and to take a Devise under the Will of the late William Doughty.* June 17, 1864. Whereas a certain William Doughty, of Georgetown, in the DistrictThe Superannuated Fund Society may hold, &c., certain property in the District of Columbia. of Columbia, by his last will, bearing date on the twenty-ninth day of April, eighteen hundred and fifty-nine, duly admitted to probate, devised and bequeathed certain real and personal property and estate—part thereof to take effect at his death, and the residue at the death or marriage of his widow—to a society incorporated by act of the general assembly of Maryland, by the name of “The Superannuated Fund Society of the Maryland Annual Conference,” and called in said will The Superannuated Fund Society of the Methodist Protestant Church for the District of Maryland; and whereas it has been questioned whether the said corporation can lawfully take and hold the said property, in virtue of said last will, without the leave and assent of congress:
Therefore— *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled*, That the assent of congress is hereby given to all and every the aforementioned devises and bequests unto “The Superannuated Fund Society of the Maryland Annual Conference” aforesaid; and the said society and body corporate is hereby fully authorized and empowered to take and hold the said property and estate devised and bequeathed to it as aforesaid, agreeably to the tenor and provisions of the said last will, and to dispose of and enjoy the same to every intent and effect as if the said society had been originally incorporated by act of congress.
Sec. 2. *And be it further enacted*, That the said corporation is hereby empowered to hold real and personal property located in the DistrictProperty, real and personal, to136THIRTY-EIGHTH CONGRESS. Sess. I. Ch. 132, 133. 1864. yield an income of not over $20,000.of Columbia acquired, or that shall be acquired by gift, purchase, devise, or bequest, and the same enjoy, rent, lease, or convey, at pleasure, as freely as any person or body corporate can do: Provided, That the net yearly income thereof shall not exceed twenty thousand dollars.
Sec. 3. When act takes effect.*And be it further enacted*, That this act shall take effect from the day of its passage. Approved, June 17, 1864.
