Chap. LI.— An Act *providing for the regular Transmission of the Mail on Route six thousand eight hundred and forty-two.* Feb. 17, 1857. *Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,* That the Postmaster-General Payment to George Bucknam for mail service.be and he is hereby authorized to allow and pay to George Bucknam, such sum not exceeding fifteen thousand dollars per annum as he may deem just and reasonable for the transportation of the mail for the balance of the term of his contract for that service, on route six thousand eight hundred and forty-two, between Bainbridge, Georgia, and Apalachi cola, Florida, unless the Postmaster-General, after giving thirty days’ notice, shall be able to let a contract to some responsible person, who will perform such service for a less sum: *Provided,* That if such increased sum over and above the contract price, be paid to the present contractor, it shall only be so paid at the end of each year, and upon the faithful per formance of this contract.
