## SEC. 840 INCOME, ELIGIBILITY, AND IMMIGRATION STATUS VERIFICATION SYSTEMS Section 11 of the Food Stamp Act of 1977 (7 U.S.C. 2020) is amended— ####
(1)in subsection (e)(18), as redesignated by section 835(1)(D)— #####
(A)by striking “that information is” and inserting “at the option of the State agency, that information may be”; and #####
(B)by striking “shall be requested” and inserting “may be requested”; and ####
(2)by adding at the end the following: > > ### “(p) State Verification Option > > Notwithstanding any other provision of law, in carrying out the food stamp program, a State agency shall not be required to use an income and eligibility or an immigration status verification system established under section 1137 of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1320b–7).” > .
