## SEC. 816 CARETAKER EXEMPTION Section 6(d)(2) of the Food Stamp Act of 1977 (7 U.S.C. 2015(d)(2)) is amended by adding at the end the following: “A State that requested a waiver to lower the age specified in subparagraph

(B)and had the waiver denied by the Secretary as of August 1, 1996, may, for a period of not more than 3 years, lower the age of a dependent child that qualifies a parent or other member of a household for an exemption under subparagraph

(B)to between 1 and 6 years of age.”.
