## SEC. 828 EXPANSION OF BASICMED ###
(a)In General Section 2307 of the FAA Extension, Safety, and Security Act of 2016 (49 U.S.C. 44703 note) is amended— ####
(1)in subsection (a)— #####
(A)by striking paragraph
(2)and inserting the following: > > #### “(2) > > the individual holds a medical certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration or has held such a certificate at any time after July 14, 2006;” > ; #####
(B)in paragraph
(7)by inserting “calendar” before “months”; and #####
(C)in paragraph (8)(A) by striking “5” and inserting “6”; ####
(2)in subsection (b)(2)(A)(i) by inserting “(or any successor form)” after “(3-99)”; ####
(3)by striking subsection
(h)and inserting the following: > > ### “(h) Report Required > > Not later than 4 years after the date of enactment of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, the Administrator, in coordination with the National Transportation Safety Board, shall submit to the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the Senate a report that describes the effect of the regulations issued or revised under subsection
(a)and includes statistics with respect to changes in small aircraft activity and safety incidents.” > ; and ####
(4)by striking subsection
(j)and inserting the following: > > ### “(j) Covered Aircraft Defined > > In this section, the term ‘covered aircraft’ means an aircraft that— > > > #### “(1) > > is authorized under Federal law to carry not more than 7 occupants; > > > #### “(2) > > has a maximum certificated takeoff weight of not more than 12,500 pounds; and > > > #### “(3) > > is not a transport category rotorcraft certified to airworthiness standards under part 29 of title 14, Code of Federal Regulations.” > . ###
(b)Rulemaking **[**[49 U.S.C. 44703 note](/us/usc/t49/s44703)**]** The Administrator shall update regulations in parts 61 and 68 of title 14, Code of Federal Regulations, as necessary, to implement the amendments made by this section. ###
(c)Applicability **[**[49 U.S.C. 44703 note](/us/usc/t49/s44703)**]** Beginning on the date that is 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Administrator shall apply parts 61 and 68, Code of Federal Regulations, in a manner reflecting the amendments made by this section.
