## SEC. 5320 APPOINTMENT OF EMPLOYEES TO THE GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT CENTER **[**[22 U.S.C. 2656 note](/us/usc/t22/s2656)**]** The Secretary may appoint, for a 3-year period that may be extended for up to an additional 2 years, solely to carry out the functions of the Global Engagement Center, employees of the Department without regard to the provisions of title 5, United States Code, governing appointment in the competitive service, and may fix the basic compensation of such employees without regard to chapter 51 and subchapter III of chapter 53 of such title.
