## SEC. 11135 UPDATES TO MANUAL ON UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES **[**[23 U.S.C. 109 note](/us/usc/t23/s109)**]** In carrying out the first update to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices under section 109(d)(2) of title 23, United States Code, to the greatest extent practicable, the Secretary shall include updates necessary to provide for— ####
(1)the protection of vulnerable road users (as defined in section 148(a) of title 23, United States Code); ####
(2)supporting the safe testing of automated vehicle technology and any preparation necessary for the safe integration of automated vehicles onto public streets; ####
(3)appropriate use of variable message signs to enhance public safety; ####
(4)the minimum retroreflectivity of traffic control devices and pavement markings; and ####
(5)any additional recommendations made by the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices that have not been incorporated into the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. ## Subtitle B Planning and Performance Management
