## SEC. 8318 EXEMPTIONS AND EQUIVALENTS ###
(a)In General Section 4305 of title 46, United States Code, is amended— ####
(1)by striking the heading and inserting the following: > > ## “SEC. 4305 Exemptions and equivalents” > ; ####
(2)by striking “ If the Secretary ” and inserting the following: > > ### “(a) Exemptions > > If the Secretary” > ; and ####
(3)by adding at the end the following: > > ### “(b) Equivalents > > The Secretary may accept a substitution for associated equipment performance or other safety standards for a recreational vessel if the substitution provides an equivalent level of safety.” > . ###
(b)Clerical Amendment **[**[46 U.S.C. 4301](/us/usc/t46/s4301)**]** The analysis for chapter 43 of title 46, United States Code, is amended by striking the item relating to section 4305 and inserting the following:" “4305. Exemptions and equivalents.” ".
