## SEC. 402 REVISIONS TO PERMANENT ACTIVE DUTY END STRENGTH MINIMUM LEVELS ###
(a)In General Section 691 of title 10, United States Code, is amended— ####
(1)in the heading, by striking “two major regional contingencies” and inserting “the National Defense Strategy”; ####
(2)in subsection (a)— #####
(A)by striking “a national defense strategy calling for” and inserting “the national defense strategy of”; and #####
(B)by striking “to be able to successfully conduct two nearly simultaneous major regional contingencies”; ####
(3)in subsection (b), by striking paragraphs
(1)through
(4)and inserting the following new paragraphs: > > #### “(1) > > For the Army, 485,900. > > > #### “(2) > > For the Navy, 347,800. > > > #### “(3) > > For the Marine Corps, 181,200. > > > #### “(4) > > For the Air Force, 333,475.” > ; and ####
(4)in subsection (e)— #####
(A)by inserting “or the Secretary concerned” after “Secretary of Defense”; and #####
(B)by striking “reduce a number specified in subsection
(b)by not more than 2 percent” and inserting “vary a number specified in subsection
(b)in accordance with section 115 of this title”. ###
(b)Clerical Amendment **[**[10 U.S.C. 671](/us/usc/t10/s671)**]** The table of sections at the beginning of chapter 39 of such title is amended by striking the item relating to section 691 and inserting the following:" “691. Permanent end strength levels to support the National Defense Strategy” ".
