## SEC. 1675 DEVELOPMENT OF PERSISTENT SPACE-BASED SENSOR ARCHITECTURE ###
(a)Development Required Subsection
(a)of section 1683 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018 (Public Law 115-91; 10 U.S.C. 2431 note) is amended by striking “If consistent with the direction or recommendations of the Ballistic Missile Defense Review that commenced in 2017, the Director of the Missile Defense Agency” and inserting “Subject to the availability of appropriations, beginning fiscal year 2019, the Director of the Missile Defense Agency, in coordination with the Commander of the Air Force Space Command and the Commander of the United States Strategic Command,”. ###
(b)Compatibility With Efforts of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Such section is amended— ####
(1)by redesignating subsections
(e)and
(f)as subsections
(g)and (h), respectively; and ####
(2)by inserting after subsection
(d)the following new subsection (e): > > ### “(e) Compatibility With Efforts of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency > > The Director shall ensure that the sensor architecture developed under subsection
(a)is compatible with efforts of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency relating to space-based sensors for missile defense.” > . ###
(c)Report on Use of Other Authorities Such section is further amended by inserting after subsection (e), as added by subsection
(b)of this section, the following new subsection (f): > > ### “(f) Report on Use of Other Authorities > > Not later than January 31, 2019, the Director shall submit to the appropriate congressional committees a report on the options available to the Director to use other transactional authorities pursuant to section 2371 of title 10, United States Code, to accelerate the development and deployment of the sensor architecture required by subsection (a).” > . ###
(d)Plan ####
(1)Limitation Of the funds authorized to be appropriated by this Act or otherwise made available for fiscal year 2019 for the Department of Defense for the development of the space-based sensor architecture under subsection
(a)of section 1683 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018 (Public Law 115-91; 10 U.S.C. 2431 note), not more than 85 percent may be obligated or expended until the date on which the Director of the Missile Defense Agency submits the plan under subsection
(g)of such section, as redesignated by subsection (b)(1) of this section. ####
(2)Clarification of roles Section 1683(g) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018 (Public Law 115-91; 10 U.S.C. 2431 note), as redesignated by subsection (b)(1) of this section, is amended by striking “the Director shall submit” and inserting “the Director, in coordination with the Commander of the Air Force Space Command and the Commander of the United States Strategic Command, shall submit”.
