## SEC. 1621.51 OPPOSITION TO ASSISTANCE BY INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS TO TERRORIST STATES **[**[22 U.S.C. 262p–4q](/us/usc/t22/s262p–4q)**]** ###
(a)In General The Secretary of the Treasury shall instruct the United States executive director of each international financial institution to use the voice and vote of the United States to oppose any loan or other use of the funds of the respective institution to or for a country for which the Secretary of State has made a determination under section 6(j) of the Export Administration Act of 1979 (50 U.S.C. App. 2405(j)) or section 620A of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 (22 U.S.C. 2371). 51Added by sec. 327 of the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 (Public Law 104–132; 110 Stat. 1257), resulting in two “Sec. 1621”. Similar language had previously been adopted in annual foreign assistance appropriations acts since FY 1988. ###
(b)Definition For purposes of this section, the term “**international financial institution**” includes— ####
(1)the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the International Development Association, and the International Monetary Fund; ####
(2)wherever applicable, the Inter-American Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the African Development Bank, and the African Development Fund; and ####
(3)any similar institution established after the date of enactment of this section.
