## SEC. 1012 EXTENSION AND MODIFICATION OF AUTHORITY OF DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE TO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR COUNTERDRUG ACTIVITIES OF OTHER GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES ###
(a)Extension Subsection
(a)of section 1004 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1991 (Public Law 101-510; 10 U.S.C. 374 note) is amended by striking “2014” and inserting “2017”. ###
(b)Expansion of Authority To Include Activities To Counter Transnational Organized Crime Such section is further amended— ####
(1)by inserting “or activities to counter transnational organized crime” after “counter-drug activities” each place it appears; ####
(2)in subsection (a)(3), by inserting “or responsibilities for countering transnational organized crime” after “counter-drug responsibilities”; and ####
(3)in subsection (b)(5), by inserting “or counter-transnational organized crime” after “Counter-drug”. ###
(c)Notice to Congress on Facilities Projects Subsection (h)(2) of such section is amended by striking “$500,000” and inserting “$250,000”. ###
(d)Definition of Transnational Organized Crime Such section is further amended by adding at the end the following new subsection: > > ### “(j) Definition of Transnational Organized Crime > > In this section, the term ‘transnational organized crime’ means self-perpetuating associations of individuals who operate transnationally for the purpose of obtaining power, influence, monetary, or commercial gains, wholly or in part by illegal means, while protecting their activities through a pattern of corruption or violence or through a transnational organization structure and the exploitation of transnational commerce or communication mechanisms.” > . ###
(e)Clerical Amendment The heading of such section is amended to read as follows: > > ## “SEC. 1004 ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR COUNTER-DRUG ACTIVITIES AND ACTIVITIES TO COUNTER TRANSNATIONAL ORGANIZED CRIME” > .
