## SEC. 543 CLARIFICATION OF APPLICATION AND EXTENT OF DIRECT ACCEPTANCE OF GIFTS AUTHORITY Section 2601a of title 10, United States Code, is amended— ####
(1)in subsection (b)— #####
(A)by striking “or” at the end of paragraph (1); #####
(B)by redesignating paragraph
(2)as paragraph (3); and #####
(C)by inserting after paragraph
(1)the following new paragraph: > > #### “(2) > > in an operation or area designated as a combat operation or a combat zone, respectively, by the Secretary of Defense in accordance with the regulations prescribed under subsection (a); or” > ; ####
(2)in subsection (c), by striking “paragraph
(1)or
(2)of subsection (c)” and inserting “paragraph (1),
(2)or
(3)of subsection (b)”; and ####
(3)by adding at the end the following new subsection: > > ### “(e) Application of Certain Regulations > > To the extent provided in the regulations issued under subsection
(a)to implement subsection (b)(2), the regulations shall apply to the acceptance of gifts received after the date of the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 for injuries or illnesses incurred on or after September 11, 2001.” > .
