9-16-3.1. Board of Trustees.

The Board of Trustees required under the provisions of § 9-16-3 shall be composed as follows:
(1)Members of the governing body of the municipality or other individuals appointed by the governing body to represent it, the number to be set by ordinance;
(2)Members of the retirement and pension system selected by the membership, the number to equal the number of governing body representatives pursuant to subdivision
(1)of this section; and
(3)One resident of the municipality who is not an official or employee of the municipality and whose membership on the Board of Trustees creates no conflict of interest. The member shall be nominated and approved by an affirmative majority vote of the trustees selected pursuant to subdivisions
(1)and
(2)of this section.
