62-4-8.1. Scholarships provided to certain persons receiving workers' compensation benefits--Eligibility.

Scholarships shall be provided for the spouses and dependent children of employees who die as a result of compensable work-related injuries if the dependents are entitled to benefits pursuant to this chapter. Scholarships are payable to accredited postsecondary education institutions in South Dakota on behalf of the dependent students attending the institutions. Eligible dependents may qualify for a maximum of two thousand dollars per year, while attending a postsecondary education institution.
No student may receive assistance pursuant to this section for more than five years. The secretary of the Department of Labor and Regulation shall promulgate rules, pursuant to chapter 1-26 , to implement this section.
