Whenever it shall appear by affidavit that an error has occurred in the publication of the names or descriptions of the candidates nominated for office or in the printing of any sample or official ballots, the judge of the circuit court, upon application of any voter, shall by an order require the county auditor or other officer charged with the duty of preparing ballots to correct such error or to show cause at such time and place as under the circumstances he may deem necessary why such error should not be corrected.
The county auditor or such other officer shall, upon his own motion, correct without delay any patent error in ballots which he may discover or which shall be brought to his attention.
