ACTION: Notice. SUMMARY: In compliance with the *Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995,* the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), announces a proposed public information collection and seeks public comment on the provisions thereof. Comments are invited on:
(a)Whether the proposed collection of information is necessary for the proper performance of the functions of the agency, including whether the information shall have practical utility;
(b)the accuracy of the agency's estimate of the burden of the proposed information collection;
(c)ways to enhance the quality, utility, and clarity of the information to be collected; and
(d)ways to minimize the burden of the information collection on respondents, including through the use of automated collection techniques or other forms of information technology. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: *Title; Associated Form; and OMB Number:* Child Annuitant's School Certification; DD Form 2788; OMB Control Number 0730-0001. *Needs and Uses:* In accordance with 10 U.S.C. 1447 and DoD Financial Management Regulation, 7000.14-R, Volume 7B, a child annuitant between the age of 18 and 22 years of age must provide evidence of intent to continue study or training at a recognized educational institution. The certificate is required for the school semester or other period in which the school year is divided. *Affected Public:* Individuals or households. *Annual Burden Hours:* 7,200 hours. *Number of Respondents:* 3,600. *Responses per Respondent:* 2. *Annual Responses:* 7,200. *Average Burden per Response:* 1 hour. *Frequency:* Once each semester of full time school, ages 18 to 22. The Child Annuitant's School Certification form is submitted to the child for completion and returned to this agency. The child will certify as to his or her intent for future enrollment and a school official must certify on the past or present school enrollment of the child. By not obtaining school certification, overpayment of annuities to children would exist. This information may be collected from some schools which are non-profit institutions such as religious institutions. If information is not received after the end of each school enrollment, over disbursements of an annuity would be made to a child who elected not to continue further training or study.
