ACTION: Receipt of application for amendment. SUMMARY: Notice is hereby given that Jeffery R. Schmid, The Conservancy of Southwest Florida, 1450 Merrihue Drive, Naples, Florida 34102, has requested an amendment to scientific research Permit No. 1316.
DATES: Written or telefaxed comments must be received on or before September 27, 2002. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The subject modification to Permit No. 1316, issued on July 16, 2001 (66 FR 39014) is requested under the authority of the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended (16 U.S.C. 1531 *et seq.* ) and the regulations governing the taking, importing, and exporting of endangered and threatened species (50 CFR 222-226).
Permit No. 1316 authorizes the permit holder to capture, measure, flipper and PIT tag, attach radio/sonic transmitter and time/depth recorders and release 20 Kemp’s ridley turtles in the Ten Thousand Islands, Florida. The permit holder requests authorization to increase this number to 30. In compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (42 U.S.C. 4321 *et seq.* ), an initial determination has been made that the activity proposed is categorically excluded from the requirement to prepare an environmental assessment or environmental impact statement.
