§57-56. Penalty for breaking jail.

If any person imprisoned pursuant to a sentence of imprisonment in a county or city jail, or any person committed to a county or
city jail for the purpose of detaining him for trial, for any misdemeanor or traffic offense, escapes therefrom, either while actually confined therein or while permitted to be at large as a trusty, he shall be punished by confinement in the county jail not exceeding one
(1)year, or by a fine not exceeding One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00), or by both such fine and imprisonment. R.L. 1910, § 4594. Amended by Laws 1951, p. 160, § 1; Laws 1983, c. 47, § 2, eff. Nov. 1, 1983.
