The board of township trustees may pay the cost of the construction, rebuilding, or repair of footbridges authorized by section 505.46 of the Revised Code out of any funds, unappropriated for any other purpose, in the township treasury. If there be no funds in the township treasury available for these purposes, the board may levy a tax for the purpose of procuring the necessary funds for the construction, rebuilding, or repair of the footbridges. The tax shall be levied upon all of the taxable property in the township and shall be certified, levied, and collected in the manner prescribed for other township taxes.
The money so raised shall be paid over to the township fiscal officer, and the fiscal officer shall pay it out on the order of the board, certified by the fiscal officer.
The tax shall not be levied until it has been approved by a majority of the qualified voters of the township, voting at any election at which the question shall be submitted. The election shall be called at a regular meeting of the board and shall be held within thirty days from the date of the resolution of the board calling for it. Twenty days' notice of the election shall be given by the posting of notices by the fiscal officer in ten public places of the township. Provisions for holding the election shall be made by the board of elections, upon receiving notice from the fiscal officer of the date and purpose of the election.
