If the department of education and workforce determines that a county board of developmental disabilities no longer needs a school bus because the board no longer transports children to a special education program operated by the board, or if the department determines that a school district no longer needs a school bus to transport pupils to a nonpublic school or special education program, the department may reassign a bus that was funded with payments provided pursuant to the version of this section in effect prior to the effective date of this amendment for the purpose of transporting such pupils.
The department may reassign a bus to a county board of developmental disabilities or school district that transports children to a special education program designated in the children's individualized education programs, or to a school district that transports pupils to a nonpublic school, and needs an additional school bus.
