§ 201. Office for the aging; director.

§ 201. Office for the aging; director. 1. There is hereby created
within the executive department an office for the aging.
2. The head of such office shall be a director, who shall be appointed
by the governor, by and with the advice and consent of the senate, and
shall hold office during the pleasure of the governor. The director
shall receive an annual salary to be fixed by the governor within the
amount available therefor by appropriation. The director shall also be
entitled to receive reimbursement for expenses actually and necessarily
incurred by him or her in the performance of his or her duties.
3. The director may appoint such officers, employees, agents,
consultants and special committees as he or she may deem necessary,
prescribe their duties, fix their compensation and provide for
reimbursement of their expenses within the amounts available therefor by
appropriation. The director, with the advice of the advisory committee
for the aging, may promulgate, adopt, amend or rescind rules and
regulations necessary to carry out the provisions of this article.
4. In carrying out its powers and duties under this title, the office
is organized and operated to have as a primary purpose informing and
instructing the public, especially the elderly themselves, on subjects
beneficial to the community which relate to the needs, abilities,
resources, opportunities, rights, entitlements, and other issues
affecting older people in New York state.
5. For the purposes of this chapter, "office" shall refer to the state
office for the aging created pursuant to this section, and "director"
shall refer to the director of the state office for the aging
established by this section.
