§ 67. Construction of bridges by municipal corporations. The common
council of any city may provide by ordinance for the erection of a lift,
hoist or swing bridge over a canal at any street in such city, on plans
and specifications approved by the commissioner of transportation. If
the commissioner of transportation shall consent to such erection he
shall file such consent with the clerk of such common council. Such
bridge shall be built, operated and maintained under the supervision and
control of the commissioner of transportation, but at the expense of
such city or of the property adjudged by the common council to be so
benefited.
