In lieu of the examination given to other applicants for licensure the director, in consultation with the committee, may issue a license to an individual who presents bona fide proof to the director that he was actively engaged in the practice of audiology or speech-language pathology, or both, in this State for three of the last five years immediately preceding the enactment of this act, and has a master's degree or its equivalent in speech-language pathology or audiology, and meets the currently recognized national professional standards in speech-language pathology or audiology.
The application shall be made to the director within one year of the enactment of this act. Prior to the licensure of an individual under this section, the director shall require that the applicant demonstrate satisfactory knowledge of current developments and procedures in his area of specialization.
