43:16A-47.1. Retirement system for fire fighters

Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, the governing body of a township having a population of at least 65,000 and not greater than 70,000 according to the 1980 federal decennial census may by ordinance adopt, with respect to a fire district within the township, the provisions of P.L. 1944, c. 255 (C. 43:16A-1 et seq.). If the governing body adopts such an ordinance, P.L. 1944, c. 255 (C. 43:16A-1 et seq.) shall take effect with respect to the fire district on January 1 following the date of that adoption.
Upon the adoption of the ordinance, the clerk of the municipality shall immediately notify the board of trustees of the Police and Firemen's Retirement System of New Jersey of that adoption.
The normal contribution under subsection
(4)of section 15 of P.L. 1944, c. 255 (C. 43:16A-15(4)), the accrued liability contribution under subsection
(9)of section 15 of P.L. 1944, c. 255 (C. 43:16A-15(9)), any liability for prior service of transferred members, and any other cost applicable to the employer of a fireman becoming a member of the retirement system pursuant to the adoption of an ordinance under this act shall be applicable to, and shall be included in the budget of, the fire district in which that fireman is employed.
