The chief probation officer shall have general supervision of the probation work under the direction of the court. He may appoint such other employees as may be necessary to carry out the purposes of this chapter, but the amount expended for this purpose shall not exceed the amount appropriated therefor in the annual county budget. The chief probation officer may make such necessary rules and regulations with respect to the management and conduct of the probation officers and other employees as may be authorized by the Assignment Judge of the Superior Court.
