27:15-1.12. Reserve to credit of municipality of state aid available

Notwithstanding the provisions of any other law to the contrary:
Any municipality may, on or before the first day of March following receipt of the notification provided for in subsection D of section 27:15-1 of the Revised Statutes, submit to the State Highway Commissioner a written request to reserve to the credit of such municipality all or any portion of the State aid made available to it pursuant to such notification; such amount of State aid to be used by such municipality, during any of the three calendar years next ensuing the receipt of such notification, for any of the purposes, and in accordance with the provisions, of this act.
Such request shall contain a statement to the effect that such municipality does not intend to use such amount of State aid during the year in which the same is made applicable pursuant to the provisions of section 27:15-1 of the Revised Statutes. Upon receipt of such request, the State Highway Commissioner shall cause to be reserved to the credit of such municipality said amount of State aid; and such amount may be used by such municipality for any of the purposes and in accordance with the provisions of this act, during any of the three calendar years next ensuing the receipt of the notification provided for in subsection D of section 27:15-1 of the Revised Statutes.
Any amount of the sum so reserved to the credit of such municipality remaining unused by such municipality at the expiration of such three-year period shall lapse and become part of the motor vehicle revenues in the General State Fund.
