18A:62-45 Provision of organ donation information at institutions of higher education.

1. a. Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, each public institution of higher education in the State shall provide information to its students, either through student health services or as part of the curriculum, that emphasizes the benefits to the health and well-being of society and the lives that are saved through organ donations, and that instills knowledge that will enable young adults to make an informed decision about registering to become an organ donor or designating a decision-maker to make the decision on behalf of the young adult.
The information shall also instill an understanding of the outcome if no decision about becoming an organ donor or designating a decision-maker is registered or otherwise recorded. The information provided shall be prepared in collaboration with the organ procurement organizations designated pursuant to 42 U.S.C.s.1320b-8 to serve in the State of New Jersey.
b. Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, each independent institution of higher education in the State is encouraged to provide information to its students, either through student health services or as part of the curriculum, that emphasizes the benefits to the health and well-being of society and the lives that are saved through organ donations, and that instills knowledge that will enable young adults to make an informed decision about registering to become an organ donor or designating a decision-maker to make the decision on behalf of the young adult.
The information shall also instill an understanding of the outcome if no decision about becoming an organ donor or designating a decision-maker is registered or otherwise recorded. The information provided shall be prepared in collaboration with the organ procurement organizations designated pursuant to 42 U.S.C.s.1320b-8 to serve in the State of New Jersey.
