Any board of education may make rules providing for the organization of school safety patrols in the public schools under its jurisdiction and for the appointment, with the permission of the parents, of pupils as members thereof, for the purpose of influencing and encouraging other pupils to refrain from crossing public highways at points other than at regular crossings, and for the purpose of directing pupils not to cross highways at times when the presence of traffic would render such crossing unsafe.
No liability shall attach either to the board of education or any person holding office, position or employment under it, by virtue of the organization, maintenance or operation of a school safety patrol organized, maintained, and operated under the authority of this section.
