§ 37-101-23. Establishment of Mississippi Small Farm Development Center; offices and officers; functions generally.

The Mississippi Small Farm Development Center, which shall be referred to in this section as the SFDC, is established under the management and control of the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning. The principal offices of the SFDC shall be located at Alcorn State University and shall be under the direction of the president of the university subject to the governance of the board of trustees. The president shall appoint a director of the SFDC who shall recommend to the president necessary professional and administrative staff of the center, all subject to the approval of the board of trustees.
It shall be the function and duty of the SFDC to:
Develop a system to deliver management and technical assistance to small farms utilizing the resources of local, state and federal government programs, various segments of the private sector, and universities and colleges throughout the state;
Make management and technical assistance available to small farms by linking together with the above resources;
Research and develop small farm opportunities for new or alternative crops;
Develop a clearinghouse for the collection and dissemination of agricultural and economic data; and
Assist small farms in developing more efficient marketing and distribution channels, including foreign trade marketing.
