An order granting an adoption divests the adoptee's former parents of all legal rights, powers, privileges, immunities, duties and obligations concerning the adoptee, including the right to inherit from or through the adoptee. An adoptee, however, may inherit from the adoptee's former parents if so provided in the adoption decree. [PL 2017, c. 402, Pt. A, §2 (NEW); PL 2019, c. 417, Pt. B, §14 (AFF).]
