§4–1003.
(a)In this section, “Department” means the Department of State Police.
(b)For fiscal years 2020 through 2023, each year the Governor shall include in the annual budget bill an appropriation of $466,600 for the Department, in coordination with the Attorney General, to form a designated unit of law enforcement officers who are selected, trained, and equipped to work as a team to investigate:
(1)firearm trafficking;
(2)straw purchases as defined in § 5–101 of this article;
(3)the movement of illegal firearms; and
(4)any offense related to an offense in items
(1)through
(3)of this subsection that may exceed the capabilities of other investigating units within the Department.
(c)The funds required to be included in the annual budget bill under subsection
(b)of this section shall be used solely to supplement, and not supplant, funds otherwise available to the Department or the Attorney General.
