Section 9. In the performance of the duties relative to the sale of drugs and food the commissioner may appoint and remove inspectors, analysts and chemists. Such inspectors shall, in addition to the powers given by sections one hundred and twenty-one to one hundred and twenty-three, inclusive, of chapter ninety-four, have the same power and authority relative to drugs, fish, food and milk as is given inspectors of milk by sections thirty-five and sixty of said chapter. Such inspectors shall, in the enforcement of laws relative to controlled substances as defined in section one of chapter ninety-four C, have all the powers and authority of police officers and constables except the power to serve civil process.
Inspectors assigned to investigate violations of laws relative to controlled substances as defined in section one of chapter ninety-four C may at the request of the commissioner carry revolvers, billies, clubs, handcuffs and any other paraphernalia necessary for their protection and the enforcement of such laws. Whoever hinders, obstructs or in any way interferes with any such inspector, analyst or chemist in the performance of his official duty shall for the first offence be punished by a fine of not more than fifty dollars, and for a subsequent offence by a fine of not more than one hundred dollars.
